Wheezing cough after spray tan session.

by Sherry
(San Diego, CA)

Question: I have had a very bad wheezing cough since my last spray tanning session. I have taken antibiotics, and still have a bad wheezing in my lungs. Anyone else experience this?

Answer: I must say that I have never had anyone complain of that in all the years I have been involved with spray tanning.

I imagine that you could have been coming down with something and spray tanning fumes have aggreviated it, or possibly you might have some sort of an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients in spray tanning solution?

I am not quite sure about it, maybe some readers might have an answer?

coughing too
by: LB

Had a few Versa tans in a row and now coughing. Hope it goes away!! I wouldn't recommend risking it. Im done.

I recommend to always use nose plugs, goggles and keeping your mouth shut while getting spray tanned.

Breathing in those fumes is not a great idea and can cause a reaction such as coughing.

Still Coughing!!!!!
by: Anonymous

My last spray tan was July 29, 2014 and I am STILL coughing. I can feel it in my lungs but it takes forever......Feels like a (JOHN COFFEE)(GREENMILE) COUGH!!!!!

Boshena's comment Oh dear! that sounds terrible - you must be allergic to one or more ingredients in the solution. People think that what you put on your skin does not matter, but it definitely makes its way into our system. Luckily, people are beginning to be aware of it in a big way, so hopefully the horrible stuff which can make people sick will be taken off the market.

Chronic Cough after spray tan
by: Carla L

I actually came on here looking for chronic cough individuals that had been using spray tanning. I have had a chronic cough for 9 weeks now. I have taken several rounds of antibiotics and steroid enhalers. I have also used the VersaSpa as well as other spray tan products. I have done research into this and I believe that DHA in the product is the cause of this. Google Chronic cough and DHA and it is crazy what you will see. Very dangerous stuff. I am still going to the pulmonary specialist and will be getting a CT scan next.

Boshena's comment: Yes, you can be allergic to anything. I had few would be clients who could not spray tan with me because they were allergic to aloe vera of all things!

If I were you I would be looking into inhaling low concentrations of food grade hydrogen peroxide (google it). It can help with things like asthma, so it possibly could help you too.
So would going on raw food detox diet for a while. It is marvelous what illnessess you can get rid off eating raw.

Spray Tan Coughing
by: Anonymous

I have spray tanned for years and never had a problem. Years later, I wheeze, have a barking cough, and nasal congestion after every spray session. It has to be the tan. Left untreated, my cough goes away in about 2 weeks. IfI don't spray, I stay healthy. If I tan, I get sick.

Boshena's comment: Yes, it seems that some ingredients in some tans have cumulative effect. I also spray tanned for years with one particular solution and everything was great, than one day I started getting itchy rashes after every tan. I had to switch to Safe Tan and all went away. After using Safe Tan for about one year I was able to spray tan with others. However, I always try to go with ones which have very few ingredients and are natural and organic.
These days I prefer to use Beautisol at home, because I am just too lazy to go to a salon :-)

Cough after Versa Tan
by: Todd

I have had it for 2 years. The same time I have been using Versa. Did not respond to 3 separate antibiotic treatments...and get this, girlfriends never caught it!!!!

I'm pretty sure the spray tan is the culprit.
