Magic Eraser to remove spray tan off hands.

Magic Eraser to remove spray tan off hands.

Answer: Different things that you can try: magic eraser (WARNING - use very sparingly, it can cause burns!) ,lemon, hydrogen peroxide, bleach and pumice stone. That should get the most of it off, but sometimes you just have to wait for the rest of the color to wear off if there is a lot of it.
I have a lot of info on my site about removing spray tan off your body, including your hands. Just click on "after spray tan" button on the left, and you will find it.

The best way of course is to never get it on your hands in the first place. Wear latex gloves next time if this is the problem.
If you get airbrush spray tan the technician usually avoids your hands, but in the booth you might get some color on your hands if you do not wear gloves.
Wear gloves, and if you want some color on the top of your hands then, after taking off your shower cap (make sure you hook your hand on the inside of the shower cap to avoid grabbing it and getting solution on your palms), rub the solution that has beaded on the outside of the shower cap onto your hands.

Flawless Tan Hands
by: Anonymous

I use a glove that has mesh and solid materials. It has worked perfect for me & I don't have to go home & scrub my hands clean. I bought them at a tanning salon - but just found them listed on Facebook - going to order myself another pair.

Answer: I am not familiar with this glove, I wish you would had included a name of it so I could check it out :-)

First spray tan
by: Casey

I got my first spray tan yesterday april 25,2016 and my arms are streaking. I am in a wedding this weekend and need to get it off my arms. Any ideas. I tried the lemon juice and peroxide neither one worked.

Answer: For emergencies, there is always make up. Sometimes it just takes a little concealer or bronzer to even it all out. I know, it is not the most perfect solution, but it definitely works :-)

I work in a aerosol factory and we were making loreal deep bronzer and i threw away some open cans that didnt have right weight not thinking wasnt wearing gloves. Spilled all over my hands and looks like dried blood.

Yes, I had some run in with a spray tanning solution changing drums of it on the machine and it certainly was not a pretty sight afterwards :-)

i didn't have any magic erasers on hand so i tried the ajax dish soap and it worked AMAZING!! I spray tanned in my dorm on my own with a quick-developing tanner and it still came off in seconds! Fingertips were a little more of a challenge, but a few rubs with a kitchen sponge worked in a snap!

Orange Feet
by: Anonymous

The bottom of my feet are very very dark orange. I used the lotion...I spray tan regularly. What went wrong?

Answer: Your feet somehow came into contact with a lot of spray tanning solution. Perhaps on the floor there was a mist and you walked on it before you applied the cream?
Also, there could be a lot more spray on the ground than usual or you walked around before getting spray tanned and the lotion rubbed off?

Weekend Wedding Problem
by: Julianne

Never sprayed tanned before, but was invited to my boyfriends brothers wedding and wanted to look great. Bought an expensive spray tan last night and woke up this morning with the brown/orange hand palm problem. I had to laugh if off, but at the same time find a quick solution. Found this site and have to give props to the Mr.Clean Magic Eraser. It has saved the day. You have to work at it a little bit, but give or take 20 minutes in intervals your almost clear. I also would not rec it for other parts of the body. However, I did not try. For $3 a pop, there is really not a cheaper solution. Good Luck!

Don't be critical
by: Anonymous

Thank you for this site. For those of us that are starting to show signs of aging and/or have cancer scares, spray tanning comes as a blessing. The more you do it, the better you become at learning new tricks to perfect the process. Some salons are offering more advanced spray booths with pre and post treatments to avoid streaks and splotches.

AJAX, my hands were brown and my husband said, its fine. Umm no. We are going to his company chirstmas party tonight and i will not walk around with brown hands, lol. So I tryed nail polish remover, worked a bit. Lemon, worked a bit. My husbands orange mechanics pumice scrub to take off grease, worked a bit. I started looking under the sink and tryed Ajax as a desperate answer and it worked! I scrubbed 3x, it was off on the 1st but I kept going. And some of this color was from lastnight when I tested it on me in the store. So I go with Ajax all the way =)

Mechanich Hand Cleaner works best for fixing "tanned" palms
by: Anonymous

I use "Goop". You find it in the automotive department. I apply about a dime sized dollop in my palm and spread it just on my palms. It works almost instantly!

No more stains!

Oompa Hands
by: Oompa Hands

Today was the first time I got a spray tan. I did all my research and thought everything went well. After 4hrs I knew I didnt put enough of the barrier cream on my hands and like a dumb forgot to put some on the bottom of my feet. So, both were so orange they looked liked I dipped them in paint. Luckly I found this website that suggest to use the Mr. Clean Eraser. It worked so good I even smoothed out a few lines I had on my elbows.

Im a manager at a tanners, we do professional spray tans, if a tan tech accidently gets spray tan on someones hand, first all you need to do is wash your hands in warm water with dial hand soap, than grab a lemon and scrub your hands a few times, works great :)

stained top of hands
by: Jennifer

Im 18weeks pregnant & got my first spray tan last night. well the girl told me to wash my hands after an hour but by the time i got home i fell asleep!! so when i woke up this morning the tops of my hands are soooo dark & look dirty. help!!

Boshena's comment Just give them a good scrub, you can try some natural things like lemon, but that will only help to a certain extent.
Unfortunately, when you are pregnant going to more extreme things like Bleach and Magic Eraser is not really an option because they have too many chemicals which can hurt the baby.

So, the worst case scenario - you will have stained hands for few days.

Your tips saved me!!
by: Maggie D

I got my first spray tan in a mystic tanning booth last night because i wanted a nice glow for Valentine's Day. When I woke up this morning my hands were Oompa Loompa orange.

Thanks to your tips, I have gotten rid of that ugly dark orange on my hands. First, I rubbed them with the mr clean eraser. Then I rubbed on some baby oil. Lastly I made a paste of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide which I rubbed on my hands like a scrub.

The results are amazing and as a bonus my skin is now incredibly soft.

Boshena's answer: You are very welcome. I am very glad I could help. There is nothing worse than looking like an Oompa Loompa on Valentine's day :-)

Mr. Clean MAGIC eraser!!
by: Joy D.

I just got a spray tan yesterday for my birthday and by the time I went to shower, I realized that the barrier lotion that I put on my hands had little effect because the spray tan was MUCH more obvious on my hands than anywhere else on my body. But thank god I found this website because I used the Mr. Clean magic eraser as suggested and it worked perfectly!! I only used it on my hands though and I didn't experience any burning. This is after I used multiple solutions like alcohol, vinegar, salt, and olive oil. Just use a magic eraser and your frown will turn upside down :) Thanks for the tip!!!

Bicarb and Borax
by: Anonymous

Hi guys, my hands got tan on them because i stupidly grabbed my boobs while my tan was still wet. even though i rubbed it off with a wet towel within minutes it still got darker and darker. Just made a paste with about 3tbs each of bicarb and borax and it came off in about 10 seconds.

Magic eraser was amazing
by: Jenyka

I got a mystic spray tan done on Wednesday and today (Friday) my hands were still orange so I tried a magic eraser and wow, my hands are back to normal again. Don't push too hard or the eraser will just shred and be careful where the skin is thinner

by: Anonymous

All these comments are great about the palms of your hands, but the tops of my hands are so orange its crazy, does the magic eraser work on the top as well?

Answer: It works on everything, but it can take off too much and you can go from one extreme to another, so do it slowly rather than fast.

by: Sheila

I have done this type of spray tan before where someone sprays you which I think is amazing because they are professionals but my problem this time was I slept in a tank top and I guess on my stomach with my hands curled up to my chest why why why but I woke up with half stained hands from sleeping like a dork lesson totally learned !!! The mr clean eraser did work the best :) thanks loved reading all the stories and ways to fix!! Love this site :)

ergh! brown palms
by: Anonymous

I had my first spray tan today and loved it. I love looking tan, but now realize my palms are brown as well, and not so good. I used the magic eraser, the 3 parts baking soda and 1 part water, and the bleach and still have brown palms..eeks!! other ideas?

Answer: Not really. You could try bleach, but after using all the other things it would hurt and probably would not do much anyway.

I think that possibly just rub in some concealer make up into your palms. Not the best solution on the planet, but that is all that I can suggest.

orange hands...but beats cancer
by: Saracp

I have gone and gotten airbrushed about a dozen times since I found my first melanoma at 30. I didn't have time to lay out so I used a Tanning bed from time to time. I tan easily and naturally (Hispanic). Also, didn't want to deal with orange hands and streaks.
I was sprayed last night and for the first time woke up with Oompa Lumpa hands and feet :(
So far nothing has gotten it off, but trust me it is worth it. I have one more day until the wedding and I am washing my hands every 30 minutes... wish me luck!

But please don't give up on spray tans :)

Magic eraser
by: Anonymous

I just went spray tanning and I had some on my hands. I'm in a wedding in a couple days and wanted to get the color off my hands fast. Mr. Clean, magic eraser did the trick! The tan came off within seconds on the palms of my hands. Highly recommend that!

Boshena's comment: Please use sparingly. I had a report that Magic Eraser can leave a very bad burn.

Magic Eraser
by: Anonymous

I tried peroxcide and baking soda, helped a little tiny bit, the pumice stone tore up my skin. I did go get the magic eraser & with using it over and over again it did "even" out the color on my hands. It's not completly gone, but I sure am much happier with it. It was my bad for not washing my hands after spraying. Other parts, knees, elbows etc turned out just fine. I might try the bleach later just to see if it takes a little more off. BTW, Great page! Thanks

Boshena's comment: I hope you will not try bleach after putting your skin through all this! I think it will hurt a lot to put it on an already tender spots.
Just give it couple of days and the color will fade by itself.

I bought a spray tan bottle from the drugstore in hopes it would be a nice natural tan like it said- this morning I woke up and I was orange! especially my hands!! my boyfriends grad is on saturday, and ive tried the peroxide with bleach and sugar and it wont budge. not sure if i should soak myself with baby oil for a few hours then rub it with lemon juice or go to a actually salon and see if they can fix it, not sure!

Boshena's comment: It should be considerably better by Saturday. Orange tans tend to calm down the next day so it is unlikely that you will be bright orange at the graduation.
Try pumice stone to scape as much orange as you can off your hands, but if there is any left, there is not much you can do apart from trying to camouflage it with make up.
Next time use latex gloves to apply self tan. That way you will avoid orange hands.

Works even on the tuff stuff!
by: Anonymous

Make a paste out of Baking Soda. Baking Soda is a natural lightening agent. To REALLY get the stuff off really easy and quickly add some BORAX powder to it. The Borax is a natural cleansing agent. These two things together amazingly take it right off and its not harsh on your skin :D

by: Anonymous

hi my hands were black this morning wen i woke up i read this sight and tryed using a pumit stone you really have to scrub but it works my hand are alot better luckly not going out untill tonight so can keep doing it through out the day

Boshena's comment: Once is enough! There is only so much you can take off. The rest will just have to wear off over few days. Too much scrubbing and it will hurt for days.

This Really Works!
by: Anonymous

This worked brilliantly. Despite the "Blocking Creme," my hands and feet came out Oompah Loompah orange! I used a facial exfoliator on my hands in the morning, in the shower, to no avail. Tonight, I used a fresh lemon and sugar paste, my foot exfoliator stick on my knuckles and bleach on a cotton ball after all that. It stung in places, but the good news is, my hands now look normal. Also, my hands look five years younger! Got all the dead skin off them. To top it all off, I put very heavy cream on after I was done. Thanks everyone for the tips! :)

help !!
by: chelsea

My finger tips are so dark from having a spray tan how can I prevent this and get rid of the stain .. Please help x

Boshena's comment: Pumice is probably the best in this situation, however, you probably will not be able to get rid of all of the color.

To avoid this problem, invest in Nail Savers and it will save you a lot of grief in the future

wash your hands and feet
by: Anonymous

Making sure to wash your hands and feet as soon as you get home after your spray tan works perfect. And after you rub your lotion on. Wash hands againp. Your hands will not stain. And even wiping off your face. give you some color but does not get dark.

I suggest wiping your palms with wet towelettes as soon as you finish spray tanning, because yellow palms look really bad.

Thank you so much for this info. Lemon works a treat,am going to the beach tomorrow...brown sprayed hands hmmmm defintely a giveaway to my spray tan! Next time i will be using a glove for sure! But for some reason i just like to use my hands!

Get the very thin latex gloves, they work really well and you can feel your skin really well through them.In fact they work better than just bare hands.

I have a wedding to go to tonight and I'm in it. The bride picked knee length dresses which is fine but we live in CO and right now I am white!!! So I did a spray tan last night. It was fine, the color is great but... the tan that was left ran to my heels. The problem??? we are wearing flip flops as part of the reception outfit with our dresses. I was reading your remedies and saw bleach worked well. I didn't have bleach but I did have Oxi-max prestain treater. SOOOO I put some on a rag and poured some peroxide on there as well and scrubbed. I used the pumice stone only on the tough parts and to my surprise the stains are gone! my feet since they will be highlighted are ready for their night! Thank you so much!!!!

You are very welcome. I know that fixing spray tanning problems will not change the world, but it sure can make your day a lot better, eh?

Orange Homecoming Queen
by: Anonymous

This so helpful. I was the 2010-11 Homecoming queen. I have to crown this year's queen and I was hoping to get just a little color, well, my hands and elbows were nasty looking. I used the bleach. It did great! Thank you so much for this advice. You were a lifesaver to me tonight! Thank you!

You are very welcome, I am glad I could help with such an important occasion. Just the thought of having to crown a new Homecoming queen with stained hands makes me feel slightly faint as I can imagine that the photos of this moment will be hanging around forever...

Spray Tanning
by: Anonymous

Boshena this page is FABULOUS - using the bleach helped "walk me off the ledge" this morning when I saw my hands were orange. Regarding your comments to Brittany about what she'll know to do next time - for me...THERE WILL NEVER BE A NEXT TIME. Spray tanning SUCKS!!
Tried to stray from the bulbs - I've used booths/bulbs for years - and what a HORRIBLE experience....never again!

Boshena's comment: Well, as everything out there, there are people that love spray tanning and others that don't. It is a personal preference.
For myself, being a bit older and having seen on my own skin what UV rays do to your skin, I am definitely choosing spray tan, even though it might not turn out perfect every time.

Believe me, mature skin age comes around much sooner than you've expected and then you have to pay consequences for the rest of your life. Not pretty, and can be very expensive as well to reverse it....

Thank you
by: Brittany

I tried bleach but it didn't work on the dark spots, so I tried lemon and the peroxide and it took off the dark spots that were on my nuckles and toes. It sucks that you don't realize until 12 hours after tanning. This truly helped!!

Boshena's comment: Yes, it does suck LOL. But next time you will know thats where your problems are and you will remember to put some barrier cream on those, won't you?

I need new ways
by: Anonymous

My hands r soo dark and I can't get it off I've used lemon juice bleach and bringer none of those reasons work is there anything else that will work

Boshena's comment: If bleach does not shift it, than not much will. You can try pumice stone, but if the color lodged too deep, you will not be able to take it off without scratching your skin off as well.

It is a lot easier to prevent it than fix it. Please wear latex glover when you spray tan next time

May 12, 2016
by: Anonymous

Literally NONE of these things work. One of my hands is an entire different shade than my other one. I've used nail polish remover, peroxide, dish soap, lemon, baking powder as a paste and numerous other soaps. None of these have worked to get rid of the tan in the slightest. Please stop "recommending" remedies that "REALLY WORK!!!" if they don't.

Answer: I can hear your frustration! However, there is only so much we can do. Those methods work most of the time, however, sometimes the spray tanning solution affects the skin on a deeper level and there is not much we can do, but wait for it to fade by itself (exfoliation will speed it up).
I am sorry that it did not work for you. :-)
