Question: I DECIDED TO GET SPRAY TANNED SO I WENT AND DID IT, AND WHEN I WAS DONE IT LOOKED OK BUT HOURS LATER I STARTED LOOKING A LITTLE ORANGE. I WAS HORRIFIED SO I WENT TO ANOTHER TANNING SALON AND THE GIRL THERE SAID TO DO A TANING BED, WHICH I AM COMPLETLY AGAINST. SHE ALSO SAID THAT FOR ONE TIME IT SHOULD BE OK...SO I DID IT BECAUSE SHE ASSURED ME THAT WITH A LOTION SHE GAVE ME I WOULD BE OK AND TAN...WELL MY QUESTION IS ...IS THERE ANYTHING THAT TAKES THE ORANGE AWAY ASAP....THANKS


Answer: Yes, a shower. When you have your spray tan you are covered with a solution containing a bronzer. That bronzer there is only for instant gratification and as a color guide for the technician, so she knows where she has already sprayed you and where she still needs to do it. As your skin develops its own color underneath the bronzer, the whole thing gets darker, often taking on a scary color. Then, when you have a shower the bronzer will wash off and you will only be left with the color that your skin develops which is usually similar to the one that you started of when you got spray tanned.

So, if you had a shower already, you probably found out that your color is not as orange as you thought. I wish you would have rang the lady that sprayed you, she would have explained the whole process to you. As it was, the lady that convinced you to have a session in the tanning bed did not do you any favous, because if you really were too yellow, tanning bed would not make any difference. That is unless you would lay there till you turned red underneath your orange tan. Than it would take away some of the orange color, but it would damage your skin and possibly make you peel.

For the tanning bed to give you a light tan safely, you would need few sessions, not just one.
So, take it as a learning experience and even if you would be still a little orange after you had your shower(that lotion that you used with sun bed would not help as it probably contained additional spray tanning solution - to give you color faster), relax, on the second day it usually turns to brown.
