How will spray tan affect my new tattoo?

by Kyla
(Carins, Australia)

Question: I just got a new tattoo, and I want to get a spray tan tomorrow. Should I take any special precautions?

How does spray tanning affect the older tattoos?

Answer: It is best to cover the new tattoo either with a sticker, or with a good dose of moisturizing cream to avoid any contamination.

When it comes to old tattoos, they are not effected by the spray tan at all. They will just not be as bright as they would be if your skin was white until the tan wears off.

Tan before tattoo

I tan today and I'm going on a holiday for 10 days and thinking to get a tattoo towards the end , will that effect it?

Answer: By the end of 10 days your spray tan should almost be gone, so it will not effect your tattoo. The spray tan affects only the dead skin layer and the tattoo ink is placed under the skin, so one and the other does not mix. It is more of a problem if it is the other way around as the new tattoo can get infected when it is treated with a spray tanning solution. That is why we suggest covering it before spray tanning.

What kind of affect I would have on my fresh tattoo
by: Anonymous

I accidental put tanning lotion on my tattoo it's only 2 week old I'm seeing orange spots on my tattoo.. Plz can someone tell me if it will go away or I ruined my tattoo plz help!

I am sorry, but cannot help you with this one. I have never seen it happen. I suggest you give it more time to see what happens. I imagine that you have removed spray tan straight away from the tattoo...

Answer: I would cover it. It has not yet healed, not a good idea to mess with it before it does.

Will spray tan change the color of my tattoo?
by: Anonymous

I took a tattoo 3 weeks ago, and it's a color tattoo. I wonder if the color will chang , when im getting a spraytan?

Yes, it will become a bit darker, but not permanently. It will look the same as if your skin went darker if you sun tanned.
When the spray tan wears off, your tan will go back to it's original color.

spray tan after tattoo

Ive had a tattoo for about 4-5 days now its only little on my wrist , and in getting a spray tan tomorrow for my prom night in school, what shall i do to protect the tattoo? Could i use preperation h ?

I suggest you cover it with either some sticker, or apply some barrier cream over it (although if you touch your wrist to your body it will leave white patches, so I prefer stickers).

Getting spray tanned with a fresh tattoo depends what type of solution the tanner is using on you. If it is Organic Solutions that have a shelf date it is fine to spray within 24 hours of getting a fresh tattoo or piercings. Also If you get spray tanned today and then get a tattoo in a few days the Green soap Tattoo artists use over and over to clean the area while they tattoo you will remove the skin tint from the spray tan.

I have a plane black tattoo but it is two thin and big to cover, havin a spray tan what colour will my tattoo turn out?

If it is not fresh, spray tan will not affect it, only your skin will get darker temporarily, so your tattoo will not be as bright as usual.

If it is freshly done tattoo, I would advise you to wait till it heals over before getting a spray tan
